About Ringsend Railway Bridge
Waterways Ireland names the railway bridge at Ringsend as the lowest on the Grand Canal: its air draft is 2.45 m, against about 2.7 m for the rest of the navigation. Every boat moving between the Liffey and the canal has to pass beneath it, so measure your height above the waterline, with screens, aerials and canopies lowered, before you book the sea lock or the city locks, and remember that the published figures are guides rather than guarantees. Beyond the bridge the Circular Line climbs through the seven city locks, C1 to C7, which, like main-line locks up to the 12th, are only passed by arrangement with the Eastern Regional Office (+353 1 868 0148).
