Who we are

Jetty Hop is run by the operator named below, who is the controller for the personal data described here. Contact us via hello@jettyhop.ie.

  • Operator: Simonas Vaidinauskas (sole trader)
  • Postal address: 40 Ballymoneen, Cappahard, Tulla Road, Ennis, Co. Clare, V95 VFR8, Ireland

In short

  • No advertising networks, tracking or analytics. Signing in to write travel stories uses a session cookie.
  • If you send a photo, a change report, a listing claim or an event, we keep what you send so we can check it and, for photos, publish it with your name.
  • Your email address is not published. Our email provider processes it to send sign-in links and story updates.
  • The boats for sale come from buz.ie, our own marketplace, through our server: your browser contacts only us, and nothing about you goes to buz.ie unless you follow a link to it.

Browsing the site

Our web server records basic technical data for every request: IP address, date and time, the page or file requested, and your browser’s user-agent. We use it only to keep the service secure and working (for example, to block abuse). The logs are overwritten automatically, at the latest after about three weeks. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Pages with weather and water levels, jetty statuses or boats for sale ask our server for the latest data. These requests are logged like any page view. They do not contain your location.

Boats for sale from buz.ie

Jetty Hop and buz.ie, the Irish classifieds marketplace, are run by the same team. The boats, engines and parts for sale on our pages come from buz.ie’s public list of listings. Our server fetches that list and the listing photos from buz.ie and passes them on from our own address (an image proxy), so your browser contacts only us, never buz.ie, while you read our pages. Our server’s requests to buz.ie contain nothing about you, and buz.ie sends us nothing about you. We show and keep only what a listing card needs (title, price, condition, town and county, type, date and photos), never a seller’s name, contact details or position.

When you follow a link to buz.ie, it opens in a new tab and you leave Jetty Hop. buz.ie then receives what any website receives from your browser, and buz.ie’s privacy notice applies. These links carry a tag (for example utm_source=jettyhop) that names Jetty Hop, the part of our page the link sits in and the page language, so buz.ie can count the visits we send it; the tag contains nothing about you.

Your location on the map

If you tap “show my location” on the map, your browser asks for permission and works out your position on your device. It is used only to show you on the map and is never sent to us.

Data stored on your device

The site saves some things in your browser so it works offline and remembers your choices:

  • your language, what you picked on the home page (hiring a boat or your own boat, and a waterway), and a few display choices (for example the map layers you switched on, or list or cards on the locks page);
  • the stops you save (“My stops”) and your last few searches;
  • drafts of the report form (for 24 hours, never with your email address) and of the business claim form (with no name or contact details; deleted after a day or with “Clear the form”);
  • your last trip plan’s settings (“jh:plan”, so the planner can offer “Continue your last plan”);
  • a jetty status you tap without signal, until it can be sent (at most two hours; older ones are dropped), and, until you close the tab, which status buttons you used in the last 30 minutes;
  • the last weather and water-level data, and the pages and maps you download for offline use.

The boats for sale are not kept for offline use. All of this stays on your device and is sent to us only where this notice says so (a jetty status waiting for signal). You can delete it at any time in your browser settings (site data) or on the offline page.

Travel stories and author sign-in

To write a travel story, you give us an email address. We send a single-use sign-in link that expires after 15 minutes. Signing in sets the jh_member cookie for up to seven days; it keeps your author session and is removed when you sign out. Browsing the blog does not require this cookie.

We store your drafts, photos, public author name and biography, journey details and publication permission on our server. Drafts and your email address stay private; our editors can review submitted stories. Your name, biography, text, journey details, captions and credited photos become public only after approval and publication. Story photos are re-encoded before storage to remove embedded camera and location data. Private drafts are not saved for offline use.

Abandoned drafts expire after 180 days. Rejected or removed stories are deleted after 30 days, once removal from the website has succeeded. Unused story photos and old notification messages are deleted after 30 days. Accounts without drafts or active sessions expire after 180 days. Existing backup retention also applies. You can request removal from My stories or contact hello@jettyhop.ie.

The email provider receives your address and the sign-in or notification message. Our email provider is Brevo (see below). Legal basis: the author account you ask us for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)); publishing your story, your name and your photos is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.

Signing in with Google (optional)

Instead of an email link, you can choose “Continue with Google” wherever you sign in. Your browser then goes to Google, where you choose an account and agree. Google tells us your Google account ID and your email address, after confirming that the address is yours. Google also sends your name and profile photo; we discard them and never store them. We keep the Google account ID with your member account so we can recognise you the next time you sign in, and the email address as your account’s contact address (as with an email link). If you already have an account with that email address, it is linked to your Google account. A short-lived cookie, jh_oauth, connects your browser to the sign-in for at most 10 minutes; the request and its one-time values are deleted once used, or after about an hour if never used.

No Google script, frame or image is loaded on our pages. Google sees only the sign-in itself, and Google’s privacy policy applies to it. You can unlink Google in your account settings at any time; email links keep working. Deleting your account removes the link. Legal basis: as for author accounts (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).

Photo uploads

When you send a photo, we receive:

  • the photo file. A large JPEG, PNG or WebP photo (over 2 MB) is made smaller on your device before it is sent (at most 2,560 pixels on the long side), which removes the data your camera or phone stored in it. Smaller photos and HEIC photos arrive as they are, including any such data: the date and time, the camera model and possibly the GPS position where the photo was taken;
  • the name you give for the photo credit, and your email address if you give one;
  • the place (and the mooring, if you choose one), the time of day, the caption you write and the language of the page;
  • the version of the consent text you agreed to, and when.

We use this to check the photo, to publish it on the site and our social pages with your name (as you agreed), and to contact you about it if needed. The file we receive, including any embedded data, is kept privately and used only to check where and when the photo was taken. The copies we publish are re-encoded without embedded camera or location data.

Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You keep the copyright and can withdraw your consent at any time: ask us to remove the photo. We then delete the photo, its original file and your details, and the photo disappears from the site with the next update. Photos we do not publish are deleted within 30 days.

Please do not send photos in which other people can be recognised unless they agree, and never photos of children.

Change reports and jetty status

When you report a change, we receive your message, what it is about, the place, the page you came from, the language, and your email address if you give one. We use it to check and correct the guide, and to reply if you asked us to. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the guide accurate (Art. 6(1)(f)); for the optional email address, your consent. Reports are kept for up to 2 years.

Service and hazard status reports, such as “Power off”, remain private messages to our editors. They may be held on your device for up to two hours when sent without signal. They do not publish availability.

Community availability

Community availability uses the same email account and jh_member session cookie as travel stories. To submit an observation, your browser sends a fresh position and its accuracy to our server. We check that you are within 500 m of the selected mooring and discard the precise coordinates; we store only the successful check time. This is separate from the map’s location button. No location is collected merely to read reports.

Your status, optional count, note and time become public only after moderation. The latest approved observation is current for one hour, with a rolling seven-day public history. Reports, moderation results and associated flags are deleted from the live database after 30 days; existing backup rotation still applies. Your email and account identifier are not public. Moderation sends the status, note, interface language and limited account activity counts to the configured AI provider, never your email, IP or precise coordinates. The provider must be selected and added to the processor list before this feature is enabled. AI screens content; it cannot verify actual availability. No availability reports are queued offline. You can withdraw your own reports or contact hello@jettyhop.ie about your data.

Listing claims, listing updates and events

When you claim or update a business listing, or send us an event, we receive what you write (for example your name, your role at the business, the event’s details), the listing or place it concerns, and your email address, which we need to reply. We use it to confirm that you speak for the business or the event, to update the guide and to reply to you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the guide accurate and, where you ask us about a listing, steps you asked us to take before an agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)). We keep it while the listing is in the guide and for up to 2 years after.

Who else processes the data

Service providers process data on our behalf to run the site:

  • Contabo GmbH (Germany) runs our server: the website, its database, and the photos and reports you send are stored there.
  • Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) runs our domain’s DNS and carries all traffic between your browser and our server, so it also handles connection data such as your IP address and what you send us. It also stores our backups, encrypted before they leave our server.
  • Brevo (France) sends our emails: sign-in links and messages about your stories, reports and account.

Transfers outside the EU: Cloudflare is a US company. Transfers to the US rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, under which Cloudflare is certified, and on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses in Cloudflare’s data processing addendum (GDPR Art. 45 and 46).

If you choose “Continue with Google”, Google (Google Ireland Limited, with Google LLC in the USA) handles that sign-in under its own terms and privacy policy, as a separate controller and not on our behalf. Google learns that you signed in to Jetty Hop; we receive only what the section on signing in with Google describes.

We do not sell or share personal data with anyone else, buz.ie included.

Your rights

You can ask for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, and a copy of your data, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. Contact us via hello@jettyhop.ie. When we delete your data, any copies left in our backups and in the change history of our editing system are deleted automatically within 30 days. You can also complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland (dataprotection.ie).

Changes

We will update this notice when the site changes and show the date of the last update here. Last updated: 30 October 2026.
