About Barley Harbour

Barley Harbour is a small public harbour on the shore of Elfeet Bay on the Longford side, about 5 km from the village of Newtowncashel. It was built of cut limestone in the 1950s. Boats can be launched from its stone-paved slipway, and there are a few points for short stays; we know of no water, power or toilets. Longford County Council secured a long-term lease on the harbour in 2026 and plans to ask locals what they want for it. Inchcleraun is close by water, and boat trips to the island have left from here. Newtowncashel, the 1980 Tidy Towns winner, has Culnagore Wood by the lake and walking routes on Cashel Commons, and the ruin of Elfeet Castle stands nearby.
