Mooring limit: 5 days in a row, 7 days a month

Public moorings on the Shannon Navigation and the Shannon–Erne Waterway: at the same public harbour for at most 5 days in a row, or 7 days in total in any month, all year round. About Cootehall

Cootehall sits on the Boyle River about 5 km above its meeting with the Shannon, and it is the first village on the way up from Carrick, after Lough Drumharlow. Roscommon County Council lists a public mooring for about five boats at the quay by the three-arched bridge, with a public slipway beside it. Close by, Cootehall Marina is a private 50-berth marina that lets berths by arrangement. The Waterfront Restaurant at the marina serves modern Irish food overlooking the river, mainly in the evenings. The village’s best-known building is the old Garda barracks where the writer John McGahern grew up while his father was the sergeant there; local volunteers now run a small exhibition in it about his life and books. Waterways Ireland lists no service block here: the nearest pump-outs are at Carrick-on-Shannon and Lough Key Forest Park.
