About Pollboy Lock
Pollboy Lock is the one lock on the 16 km River Suck navigation between the Shannon and Ballinasloe. It was completed in the late 1990s as part of the works that opened the Suck to cruisers, and the 1999 Shannon Boat Rally ended at its gates. A keeper works it in the normal Shannon lock hours, lunch break from 13:00 to 14:00 included, for 2 Smart Card units or €1.50; if nobody is about, call +353 90 964 4938. As at every Waterways Ireland lock, wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid while you handle the boat. Traffic is light but growing: boat visits to Ballinasloe rose by more than half from 2021 to 2022. Moycarn’s marina is just upstream and the town marina a little further on, so plan your return to clear the lock before it closes for the evening.
