About Aghoo Lock

Aghoo Lock, beside Aghoo Bridge, is about 4 km below Ballinamore and marks the end of the waterside path that runs from Ballyduff through forest and farmland. Below it the waterway soon opens into Garadice Lough, almost 4 km² of open water, with the moorings of Haughton’s Shore on its far side. Paddlers should take that crossing seriously: the Blueway guide rates the 8.7 km from Aghoo to Haughton’s Shore as intermediate because of the open water, and advises checking the forecast and the wind flags before setting out. By boat it is about 8 km to Haughton’s Shore; keep to the marked channel across the lake.
