About Battlebridge Lock
Battlebridge Lock lifts boats off the Shannon about 1 km from Leitrim village and into the Lough Allen Canal, the 7 km cut to Drumshanbo. It shares one lock-keeper phone line with the two locks above and keeps the Shannon hours, so phone ahead (+353 86 812 7522 or +353 71 964 1552). The canal’s locks measure 19.5 m by 4 m, and as a guide allow 1.2 m of draft and 3 m of headroom. Close by, Beirne’s of Battlebridge is a traditional pub on land the family has held for some two hundred years; it reopened in July 2026 with its caravan and camping park, which has a private 16-berth marina. The Shannon Blueway trail follows the canal from here to Acres Lake, and a 5 km loop walk runs to Drumleague Lock and back.
