About Drumshanbo
Drumshanbo stands at the southern tip of Lough Allen under Sliabh an Iarainn, the Iron Mountain, and grew up on the iron trade of the 17th century. Boats arrive through Acres Lake, where a jetty by the lakeside amenity area serves the outdoor pool, the playground and the start of Ireland’s first floating boardwalk, a 600 m walk that leads onto the Shannon Blueway. Waterways Ireland’s marina at the canal head has a service block with toilets, showers, laundry, a pump-out and shore power. The town has traditional pubs and shops, and the Shed Distillery, maker of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, runs tours with a café and bar in a former jam factory on the Carrick road. Every July the Joe Mooney Summer School fills the streets with classes, concerts and sessions of traditional music, song and dance. The Arigna Mining Experience is a short drive away.
