About Leitrim Village
Leitrim village sits where the Shannon–Erne Waterway leaves the Shannon, about 8 km by water above Carrick-on-Shannon, which makes it a natural first or last night for boats heading to or from the Erne. Boats tie up along a quay, at a number of jetties and in two marinas. Waterways Ireland lists toilets, showers, laundry, a pump-out and a slipway in the village, but no shore power; there are private berths too, including the Leitrim Marina Hotel’s own marina. Eating out is easy: The Barge Steakhouse is a few steps from the moorings, the Leitrim Inn & Blueway Lodge serves food every day and MJ O’Connor’s by the canal is known for live music and wood-fired pizza. The county takes its name from this village, once an O’Rourke stronghold whose ruined castle still stands in the centre. Lock 16 is about 600 m upstream.
