About Drumduff Lock
Drumduff lies about 3 km above Leitrim village, in open drumlin country where the canal runs between hedges and small fields. It is the third of the eight locks that lift boats from the Shannon to the summit at Lough Scur, and Newbrook follows only some 400 m later, so the two are usually worked one straight after the other. When the waterway was restored in the early 1990s, the locks on this western side were still in reasonable shape and were repaired, keeping their original stonework, while those towards the Erne were rebuilt. Like every lock on the line, Drumduff can be used only during the published hours, when waterway staff are on duty.
