About Kilclare Middle Lock

Kilclare Middle Lock sits between the other two chambers of the flight, about 5 km from Leitrim village. Waterways Ireland closes the stretch from lock 8 at Castlefore down to this lock from 2 November 2026 for about three months; the work covers clearing debris, servicing the sluices and gates and repairing the lock masonry, all ahead of the 2027 season. Outside that closure it works like every other lock on the line, from a console with a Smart Card during the published hours, and the Kilclare area patroller answers on +353 87 260 3663. With its two neighbours it raises boats from the canal level to the summit, the highest stretch of the waterway.
