About Cleighranmore

On the eastern shore of Lough Allen, Cleighranmore is one of the two marinas Waterways Ireland has built on the Lough Allen navigation, the other being at Drumshanbo. It lies below the slopes of Sliabh an Iarainn, the 585 m Iron Mountain whose ore was smelted on its eastern side and carried across the lake to the forge at Drumshanbo, and the village of Ballinagleragh is a short way north along the R207. No services are listed here, so arrive with full water tanks and an empty holding tank: the nearest service block is back at Drumshanbo. The lake is big and open: read Met Éireann’s Lough Key and Lough Allen forecast before you cross. Coarse anglers come for the lake’s native pike and its bream and roach, and no licence is needed for coarse fishing in Leitrim.
