Movanagher Lock

Movanagher Lock lies in open country about 5 km downstream of Kilrea. In the Plantation the townland was the Ulster headquarters of the Mercers' Company of London, which held the Kilrea estate. One lock-keeper looks after both Movanagher and Carnroe, under 2 km further down, so ring +44 28 2954 0570 before setting off. The fee is the standard £1 a lock, or 50p each when two or more boats lock through together. Waterways Ireland lists toilets, showers, water and a slipway at the lock and runs a small campsite beside it. After heavy rain the current near the lock approaches can be strong, with eddies, so come in slowly and under full control.
