About Hodson Bay

Hodson Bay is a sheltered harbour on the Roscommon shore at the southern end of the lake, tucked in behind a breakwater next to the four-star Hodson Bay Hotel. Waterways Ireland lists a slipway here but no toilets, showers, pump-out or shore power, so it suits a lunch stop or a night with the hotel's bar and restaurant ashore. In summer the bay is busy: Baysports runs one of Ireland's largest inflatable water parks off the shore, with kayaks, paddleboards and a café, and Athlone Golf Club, founded in 1892, plays along the lake right next door. Viking Tours' cruises from Athlone call in here. The OPW's Hodson's Bay gauge, inside the harbour, gives a live reading of the lake level. Roscommon County Council has applied to double the marina as part of a waterfront park, with a decision expected by February 2027.
