About Ballyconnell Lock

Ballyconnell Lock lies less than a kilometre below the town moorings and is the second-last lock before the Erne. Next to it the river has been shaped into a 600 m white-water course with Grade 2 rapids, standing waves, eddies and rocks, great sport for proficient canoeists and kayakers but no place for beginners. Below the lock the canalised Woodford River runs for about 5 km to Corraquill, with the border between Cavan and Fermanagh never far away. The patroller for the Ballyconnell area answers on +353 87 260 3662, and the lock is worked with one Smart Card unit like all the others on the line.
