About Aghalane

Aghalane is the eastern gateway of the waterway. The moorings lie on the Fermanagh side of the Woodford River beside the border crossing with Cavan, and from here it is a short run down to the Erne, with Belturbet about 10 km away by water. The harbour has toilets, showers, a pump-out, a slipway and shore power, but no laundry. The road bridge has a story of its own: the old Aghalane Bridge was blown up in 1972 during the Troubles and left in ruins, cutting south Fermanagh farmland off from Belturbet, until the Senator George Mitchell Peace Bridge opened in 1999; a “Peace For All” statue stands on the Cavan side. Below Aghalane the Woodford River joins the Erne, and the islands and woods of Crom Estate are within easy reach.
