About Inish Rath

Inish Rath, also known as Krishna Island, is an island of about 22 acres in the Upper Lough. Its Victorian mansion, once a hunting lodge, was bought by members of ISKCON in the 1980s and turned into a temple, one of only three of the movement’s temples on the island of Ireland. Visitors are welcome every day, and the community suggests coming on a Sunday at noon, when it holds its weekly programme; boaters have been welcome at the visitors’ quay, and a ferry brings other visitors across from the mainland. The grounds are a nature reserve with woodland paths, gardens, peacocks and a herd of cows kept for milk. Visitors are asked to leave meat, cigarettes and alcohol behind. It is private land and a place of worship, so ring ahead (+44 7548 311916) before you land.
