About Enniskillen
Enniskillen sits on an island in the short stretch of river between the Upper and Lower Lough, and the water is never far away. The castle was begun by the Maguires in the 15th century; its Watergate, with two round corbelled turrets, dates from about 1609, and today it holds the Fermanagh County Museum and the Inniskillings Museum, with a free visitor centre and tourist office. The Broadmeadow has public jetties with toilets and showers, and beside the Erneside footbridge the Enniskillen Blueway zone has kayaking and paddleboarding right in the town. Blakes of the Hollow, a listed Victorian pub from 1887 with traditional music on Fridays, is a short walk away. Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett both went to Portora Royal School. For a pump-out and shore power, use the Round O jetty in Brook Park.
