About Rossmore Quay
Rossmore lies on the Galway shore of Lough Derg where the Woodford River flows in, across the lake from Kilgarvan. There is not much here beyond a small harbour, a steep slipway with poor grip and a great deal of peace and quiet, although on fine summer days local families come down to swim. Rocks lie off the approach, so stay outside the marks until you are lined up with the entrance. The harbour is also the way into the Woodford River, which winds a short distance upstream between reed beds to a jetty built by the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland. We have no checked figures for depth or headroom on the river, so go slowly and turn back if in doubt. Rossmore Pier is the start of a Lough Derg Blueway paddling trail that follows the shore to Illaunaboe Quay in Coos Bay.
