About Glasson

Glasson lies a short way inland from the inner lakes, on the road north from Athlone, and for its size it is a food village. The Villager is a bar and restaurant run by a local chef and his family, with music on Saturday nights after dinner. On the shore below, Wineport Lodge began as a restaurant in 1993 and grew into a lakeside hotel with a spa; boats tie up at its jetty for breakfast or dinner, but it is for guests and diners only. Glasson Lakehouse, a hotel just outside the village on the shore of Lough Ree, has an 18-hole course designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr and offers boat tours. There is a supermarket that opens late. We know of no public jetty in Glasson itself, so if you are not eating at a hotel, moor at Coosan Point or a marina on the inner lakes.
