About Killashee (Lock 43)

Lock 43 lies beside Aghnaskea Bridge, and its restored lock-keeper's cottage stands next to the chamber. Behind the cottage is St Patrick's Church, built in 1829 on land given by the New Royal Canal Company. Killashee village is about a kilometre away and is the best place on this stretch to buy supplies, at the village shop, while Magan's is a popular pub with walkers and boat crews. Lock 44, with another restored cottage at Savage Bridge, follows about half a kilometre on, and then the canal heads out across Begnagh Bog towards Clondra. Waterways Ireland says limited help with the locks may be available if you call ahead; the number for locks 41 to 46 is +353 87 915 1400. Every lock still needs your own lock key.
