About Mosstown Harbour (Keenagh)

Mosstown Harbour is the canal stop for Keenagh, also spelt Kenagh, a village of about 600 people a short way from the water, with shops, two churches and several pubs. It has proved itself as an overnight stop: when the IWAI's Royal Canal branch cruised up from Clondra in 2024, the crews ate at Mack's Shack, a restaurant in a quirky barn in the village, moved on to Newman's pub, and ended the evening round a turf fire on the quay, with brazier and turf supplied by the people of Keenagh. Three kilometres from the village, the Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre keeps an 18 m stretch of an oak road laid across the bog in 148 BC, the largest of its kind found in Europe, in a hall built to preserve it.
