About Richmond Harbour, Clondra

Richmond Harbour, finished when the canal reached the Shannon in 1817, is the Royal Canal's western terminus: a long stone basin in the village of Clondra (Cloondara) where the canal, the Camlin River and the Shannon meet. Lock 46, at its north-west corner, lets boats down to the Camlin, and from there the short Cloondara Canal and its lock lead out to the Shannon opposite Tarmonbarry. On the west bank, a Waterways Ireland service block offers toilets, showers and a laundry, with a pump-out and shore power at the quay, next to a playground and free parking. The Richmond Inn, a four-storey flax mill of 1821 at the harbour mouth, is a pub and guesthouse with food every day, Midlands Cycle Hub hires bikes for the greenway, and paddle craft can be rented. The old dry dock, the harbour master's office and the last lock-keeper's cottage complete the scene.
