Mooring limit: 5 days in a row, 7 days a month

Public moorings on the Shannon Navigation and the Shannon–Erne Waterway: at the same public harbour for at most 5 days in a row, or 7 days in total in any month, all year round. A longer stay in winter (1 November to 31 March) needs a winter mooring from Waterways Ireland. Boater information from Waterways Ireland

About Tarmonbarry

Tarmonbarry, officially Termonbarry, grew around a sixth-century foundation of St Berach and sits where the N5 crosses the Shannon; a small part of the village lies on the Longford bank. Boats tie up along the cut-stone quay wall by Keenan’s, a family-run hotel, bar and restaurant overlooking the river, and crews waiting for the lock often stop here too. Ashore there are public toilets and free parking, but no showers or pump-out. The Purple Onion, a few doors away, combines a bar-restaurant with a wine and deli pantry, an art gallery and a vintage shop. The village also has the private Tarmon Harbour Marina. Clondra, with Richmond Harbour and a trailhead of the Royal Canal Greenway, is a short ride away, and Strokestown Park is a taxi ride west. The lifting bridge closed on 16 October 2026; the notice was withdrawn on 23 October without word of a reopening, so ask the lock-keeper.
