About Dromod

Dromod lies on the shore where Lough Bofin (the white cow) meets Lough Boderg (the red cow), and its harbour is only a short walk from the village. Waterways Ireland runs a service block here with toilets, showers and a pump-out. It is one of the easiest places on the river for crew changes, because the station on the Dublin–Sligo line has been open since 1862. Its narrow-gauge neighbour, closed in 1959, is now the Cavan & Leitrim Railway, a privately run museum where volunteers operate trains on a short stretch of the old line. Food and drink are close at hand: The Brandywell, Cox’s Steakhouse and The Copper Still are all a short stroll from the harbour. The bog-oak sculpture called The Weeping Tree stands in the village centre, and Derrycarne Woods offer a shoreline walk on Lough Boderg.
