About Roosky
Roosky, also spelt Rooskey or Ruskey, lies close to where Roscommon, Leitrim and Longford meet; the N4 Dublin–Sligo road runs past the Leitrim side. The harbour, with bollards along the quay, lies beside the 1845 bridge and gets busy in summer; a caravan park adjoins it, and the service block has toilets only. Just upstream a stone beacon with an orange cap warns of shallows off the west bank. The village has pubs, a supermarket, a pharmacy and Our Lady of Mount Carmel church; the water around Rabbit and Pigeon islands is known for roach, perch and bream. On foot there is the 1.4 km lock trail and four waymarked bog loops of 6 to 16 km from the church car park. Shannon River Adventure, on Lough Bofin just outside the village, rents kayaks and runs outdoor activities.
