About Coleraine
Coleraine, the biggest town on the Causeway Coast, grew up at the lowest crossing of the Bann; people were fishing for salmon here more than 9,000 years ago. Coleraine Harbour Commissioners run secure pontoons on both banks just below the town bridge, with water, electricity, CCTV and gate fobs (£20 deposit): book a berth with the harbour office on +44 28 7034 2012, or call on VHF 12. The harbour yard has an 18-tonne crane, a 40-tonne slipway trailer, boat storage and repair contractors. From the pontoons it is a few minutes' walk to the shops, cafés and the sandstone Town Hall, and about 20 minutes on foot to Mountsandel Wood. Christie Park, the council park beside the river, has toilets, water and canoe steps. Paddlers can follow the 58 km Lower Bann Canoe Trail, and the Giant's Causeway is a short drive away.
