About Ballycuggaran
Ballycuggaran, also known as Twomilegate, is the bathing beach at the southern end of Lough Derg, a few kilometres north of Killaloe on the Clare shore. The beach holds a Blue Flag for 2026 and an EPA "excellent" rating. Clare County Council has been building a water-sports facility here with hot showers, toilets, changing rooms and secure storage; work began in late 2024, so check whether it is open. There is a slipway and a small set of pontoons, but who runs the pontoons and whether visiting cruisers may use them is not confirmed, so treat Ballycuggaran as a daytime stop. Just to the north, the University of Limerick's adventure centre runs sailing, windsurfing and kayaking sessions, and a waymarked loop of about 7 km climbs from the shore into Crag Wood. For the night, Killaloe and Ballina are close by.
